It’s been a while since I have been to Las Vegas; although I have family there, I still don’t travel there very often.  I have gone to Las Vegas about 5 times since 1984; WOW that is an awful long time ago.  Well, since it has been such a long time ago, I decided to go there for my birthday coming up in June.  I will be going there with a lot of friends and we plan to dance the night out.  I did so much research on where to stay, what was the best place to spend the night at, what was the price range, what was the best place to eat at and, most important for the birthday girl, where to dance all night long. 

 

I was told by a friend to visit The Lady Luck but I found out that it was closed and that it would be opening soon.  This hotel would be a great place to spend the night, it is said that it is going to be very comfortable, but it was probably not the place where we could find all of what we are looking for on celebrating a birthday.  I was told that The Luxor Hotel was one of the best for all of the mentioned above.  I am sure that the view from this hotel anywhere you stand will be great, you will feel like you are on top of the world.  I mentioned it to a couple of friends and they agreed.  We are going for the weekend only so we didn’t want to be running around to sleep, dine and dance at different places. 

 

After so much research on where to stay and what to do for my birthday we decided to stay at The Mansion MGM Grand.  This is an extremely spacious suite; it is called the mansion for a reason, “I said”.  It is over $500 to stay there but it will be worth it, we gathered all the information on the catering for the party, the sleeping arrangements, the bar, the music and most important, the cake.  It is going to be a great experience; we are going to celebrate all night long.  Life if too short to waste it, and since I haven’t been to Las Vegas in such a long time I will make sure that I enjoy every second of it.  You only live once and if you have the time and the cash take a chance and go for a road trip, with your kids, family, and/or friends.  Make sure to thank all of those that are there with you celebrating another year of your life and making you smile on that special day.  You never know what to choose when you celebrate your birthday but if it is with the company of the ones you love and love you, anywhere is the right place.  Mansion MGM Grand, “here we come”!

A beautiful day out and unmissable for adults and kids alike if you are visiting the Forest is a trip to Bolderwood Deer Sanctuary and the Ornamental Drive. A day can easily slip by in this beautiful woodland area with plenty to do for any member of the family.

The car park at Bolderwood gets really busy, so on a really lovely sunny day, plan your trip early to avoid disappointment. Adjacent to the car park and the woodland there is an open green which is great for having your picnic and a family/friendly game of rounders. In the woody area at the entrance to Bolderwood you will find picnic tables, portable barbeque facilities and toilets. Here you will also find an information centre, often manned by a friendly forest ranger who can help with questions about the forest. Children and adults can have some fun seeing how many questions they can answer from the quiz!

From the Woodland area of Bolderwood you can choose from a selection of walks. One of the walks is the Bolderwood Deer Watch Trail. Throughout the walk you might spot the odd deer in the forest among the trees if you are quiet but if you miss them then you are sure to see some deer in the nearby sanctuary. Here there is a viewing platform and the deer here are a little more used to human prescence so you are bound to catch a glimpse of some deer grazing.

If you decide to take the Jubilee Walk, this is a about half a mile and will take you through the Bolderwood Arboretum. This is a fabulous display of a range of trees which began as far back as the 1800’s. Unfortunately, because of the high winds we had here in 1987 and further more in 1991, many of the great trees were destroyed. A project of ongoing planting has since been put in place to return this area to its original beauty.

An alternative stroll through this beautiful ancient woodland area will show you many more varieties of trees such as Chestnut, Beech, Oak and Norway Spruce. This walk is called the Radnor Trail and will also bring you about to the marvellous Deer Sanctuary and the viewing platform, if you haven’t spotted any Deer already during your walk.

The New Forest Cycling network which takes you through the many finest parts of the forest and links many of the major villages includes Bolderwood. Cycling through Bolderwood which includes the Ornamental drive is beautiful and can take about 3 and one half hours.

Bolderwood Ornamental drive must be visited either on the way in to Bolderwood or on the way out. The ornamental drive takes you though this marvellous picturesque route around Bolderwood and during the summer it is at its most beautiful. This is a busy fairly narrow windy road however and many hikers and cyclists as well as the wildlife use it too, so take care !

At the bottom of the car park you will find the 18^th century barn which incorporates the Visitors Centre. The Centre includes as well as information, a restaurant, a gift shop and lavatories.

Close by to the 18^th century visitors centre you will find a large play area for small and bigger children. Its spacious and very safe. Parents can help and watch their children from a safe distance and rest a while, while the children burn off their excess energy.

The steam railway just behind the Visitors Centre is one of the best in the country. The ride takes about 20 minutes and during this ride you take in a number of tunnels and pass by the central lake. A complete joy for all of the family.

If you are feeling energetic and really wanting to tour around the whole park but haven’t got your own bikes with you – you can hire bikes in the country park. There are miles of cycling paths and it is a great way to see the whole valley and to take in its full beauty. Cycle paths and walks are well marked throughout the park.

A great experience for the over 12’s and fairly fit is the ‘Go Ape’ experience. Go Ape is an experience of truly high wire acts in the tree tops and lasts for about 2 hours. This is great fun, truly energetic, a bit scary and a marvellous experience. Definitely not for the unfit and pre-booking is essential as very popular.

The play trail is an absolute must for the children. There is some marvellous wooden play equipment spread throughout the whole trail and this in itself can take a couple of hours and the children have little realisation of how far they are going around the park because they are having so much fun on all the play features.
